To Do or Not to Do
There seems to be a myth that spiritually oriented people can fall into and that is thinking “if I’m spiritual enough I won’t have to do anything.” Sound familiar? Some would say there’s no point in being spiritual just to be spiritual, but how often and how deep do we inquire into this? It’s important to realize that developing on a spiritual level might not require doing anything—but remember as you become more aware that you still exist on the earth plane—and nothing comes for nothing here. In order to see your dreams manifest in physical reality, you need to put one foot in front of the other and take action.
It’s awesome that you’re a supremely developed spiritual being and you want your work to be an extension of your conscious evolution, but if you’re wondering why nothing is happening; ask yourself if you have executed the basic earthly steps necessary for anyone to take. Yes, divine light and the grace of spirit can carry you far, but you need to take care of the basics, for example: build a website, learn about marketing, save money for business development, and find like-hearted community that you can co-create with and draw support from. Maybe your success is clear in your visions, bur now it is your job to translate your visions into a language that everyone can understand and relate to. After you take these steps you can start to feel the actualization of your path, seeing your heart’s desires coming to fruition. Don’t forget along your spiritual wanderings that you are still a member of the earth club and that the same universal principles apply to you as anyone else—and this is good news—because with practice you will master these principles and begin to effortlessly put them into motion to support your mission and the awakening of the planet.
Yes, Tantra wants you to get away from what you do, but not forever. Let go of what you currently do, because chances are you haven’t paid much attention to who you are, and what you do is simply a product of cultural programming and years of “should-ing,” (you should get married, you should believe in this god, and get this job, etc.) In letting go of what you do you free up space to start tapping into who you are—and from here you dig down deep, exposing the dark parts of your being as well as the parts that are so brilliantly bright, you may fear sharing them with the world. This is what happens when you feel your spiritual self really starting to develop.
Once you begin to tap into the exquisiteness of the universe and the infiniteness of your being, you see that who you are is much more substantial than the mindless rat race of what you do, but this is where the traps lies. At this point it is easy to invalidate all things “doing.” Remember that doing is a healthy, active part of being human when partnered with awareness. Unfortunately most of us spend much of our life engaged in dysfunctional patterns of doing—without awareness—which means when we find a place beyond this it can be easy to glorify being and demonize doing.
Letting go of doing and returning to your natural state of being is only part of the process, and when it comes to fleshing out your visions and seeing them come to life, it requires you taking action. Pure, unadulterated action can be an extension of your raw being, connected to source, but this action also carries with it directed, focused movement, which is another side of doing. Once you are tapped into your being and you feel a true action welling up inside of you, there is now an opportunity to experience the healthy connected aspect of doing. Doing is not antecedent to being, as many spiritual paths would lead you to believe. What you do can be an extension of who you are. It’s understandable that after connecting with yourself after so long you may fear doing, but after so many years of your doing in the world stifling your being, don’t fall into the trap on the other side by letting your being stifle the action you take or limit what you want to do while you’re alive.
The process can look like this—let go of your doing, return to your being, but now pay attention to HOW you are being, which brings you back to a connected sense of doing. The ability to do, with directed focus, is a powerful aspect of being a cognizant being on earth here for spiritual evolution. Now that you’ve gotten in touch with who you are, start to explore how you are. Find out what you can do that is a connected extension of who you are. We need conscious, spiritual people who are willing to take action. This is the only way to manifest heaven on earth.
Spiritually evolved people doing nothing may feel really good in etheric realms, but outside of meditation it doesn’t always serve what’s going on in the cold harsh reality of day. Make your choices wisely and know that you can have it all—you can have a rich connected spiritual life and still exist in the realm of doing. Know that when I ask you “what do you do?” I am aware that it is an extension of the miraculous powerful source of who you are.
